Hot Spot 4 On 6th June 2013, inCASA will be represented by In-JeT at The Danish Welfare Technology Exhibition and Conference. In-JeT will have an exhibition stand demonstrating the project’s technical solution and results. Specifically, the transferability capabilities of inCASA will be demonstrated using the results from the municipality of Skive who is currently testing the inCASA solution. The demonstration will include the touch screen and some of the devices used by chronic elderly patients in Skive and visitors to the stand will have the opportunity to try the devices themselves. In addition to the exhibition, representatives from Skive municipality will, in cooperation with In-JeT, give a presentation at the conference about their experiences with using the inCASA solution.
The annual conference is aimed at Danish municipal and regional healthcare and social care staff working with telemedicine. The Minister for Economic Affairs and the Interior, Margrethe Vestager, and former Health Minister, Arne Rolighed, are among the many prominent speakers at the conference. The programme can be downloaded here (in Danish).

The Italian national Exploitation Event was organized in the framework of the eHealth conference that was held on the 28th of May 2013 in Rome. REPLY, INVENT and ATC sponsored the event all day, by placing an inCASA stand. The Conference was sponsored mainly by:
  • The Ministry of Health
  • The Ministry of Economic Development
  • SIRM: an Italian association on Medical Radiology
  • AICC: an Italian association on Clinical Engineering
Moreover, a specific inCASA workshop was organized within the event demonstrating the inCASA approach, the technical solution, the services and evidence of the inCASA results, presented by involved inCASA Pilot professionals.
The full agenda of the inCASA session in the eHealth Forum is available online

INSERM, along with TID and REPLY, submitted an abstract paper for the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The paper was accepted and inCASA project was presented at a very important event in the healthcare domain on 2nd of June 2012 at Chicago. The inCASA poster can be found here.
The submitted work is focused on the French pilot study and is entitled 'The European inCASA telecare-telehealth electronic platform for the daily assessment of symptoms, weight and activity in cancer patients on chronotherapy at home.'

    inCASA Pilot Phase

The Pilot activities are listed in summary below

    • The Spanish inCASA pilot (FHC) is at the Pilot execution phase starting from November 2011. In the beginning of May 2012, 27 patients have already attended a presentation meeting at FHC premises for their inclusion at inCASA project. This screening phase included consultation by Rehabilitation specialist, BODE index calculation and SF-36 questionnaires completion.
As far as Pilot life is concerned, 6 patients are currently monitored remotely through the inCASA platform via the pulsioximeter device that is connected with the patient’s Kit.
A major next step to be performed in the week 7-11 May 2012 is the actigraphy monitoring of the FHC patients. 7 patients have been already selected for actigraphy monitoring which will be made possible thanks to the already implemented infra-red integration of the actigraph with the inCASA solution

    • The Greek Pilot (KGHNI) has started its Pre-Pilot phase at October 2011 and its Pilot Phase at March 2012. Until the beginning of May 2012, 11 patients have already been monitored remotely through the inCASA platform targeting to a total number of 20-25 patients till the end of the project.
KGHNI has selected patients suffering from Chronic Heart Failure which are supervised by the Cardiology Clinic of the hospital. Patients measurements are monitored daily by dedicated personnel (doctors and nurses) and, till now, the monitored parameters include Systolic / Diastolic Blood Pressure, Body Weight, Heart Rate and Pulse Oximetry.
Towards the last phase of the project, KGHNI aims at exploiting the unique advantage of the inCASA platform to combine Healthcare monitoring with User Habits profiling and Home Environment monitoring

    • The Italian Pilot (ATC) has started its Pre-Pilot phase in October 2011 and its Pilot Phase in March 2012. From the beginning, 3 users have already been monitored remotely through the inCASA platform targeting to a total number of 20 users till the end of the project.
ATC has selected the users together with the Social Services of the City of Turin Municipality, because they are already included in a programme of social accompaniment as people living alone, sometimes with health problems or without relatives that can take care of them.
ATC aims at exploiting the promising feature of the inCASA platform to combine User Habits profiling and Home Environment monitoring, through the sensors for motion, door, temperature/humidity, water leak, TV usage and chair/bed permanence.

    • The French pilot (INSERM) has started the Pre-Pilot phase in October 2011 and the Pilot phase in March 2012. During the Pre-Pilot phase, 5 patients suffering from cancer, living at home and treated by chrono-chemotherapy were recruited for remote monitoring through the inCASA platform. The monitored parameters included body weight and symptoms (MDASI questionnaire).
The Actigraph has been deployed at INSERM in March 2012 to be added to the Pilot phase for daily rest-activity rhythm assessment. The recruitment for the Pilot phase has started and 2 patients are currently monitored targeting to a total of 30 patients till the end of the project. The next step is the involvement of the nursing staff as soon as the interface of the clinical portal has been improved in order to allow a quick visualization of changes in patients' health condition and ensure a good follow-up.

    • Chorleywood Health Centre (CHC) has begun the roll out of the inCASA pilot which is monitoring frail elderly patients with CHF, COPD and Dementia in West Hertforshire, UK. Twenty five patients are being provided with Telehealth and Telecare devices for 6 months in order to monitor for health and well being. In addition, new service models which exploit both heath and social care are currently being developed using innovative and standards driven technology in order to support exisiting best clinical practice.
